Greetings from the Holiday Inn Lobby...
Happy Father's Day to any of you Fathers out there.
We took off from Boston yesterday - three of us and six HUGE bags. Scot, our friend who drove us to the airport, figured we were moving permanently away from home since, judging by the luggage, we'd packed all our belongings. In reality, we have two duffel bags full of gifts, a huge suitcase with an 8-man tent that we're hoping to get to a Sudanese refugee camp, another bag of tent poles, and two pretty small bags with our belongings. We travel there heavily, but barring any huge shopping sprees, we'll travel home light.
We left Boston in the afternoon and after a short flight we found ourselves in Canada's capital, Ottawa. Not wanting to spend three hours in the airport, we hopped in a cab and had Sam from Lebanon give us a tour of the city. We saw beautiful churches, passed by countless museums, and saw a twenty foot metal spider that I thought many of my students would love.
Back on the plane, we headed to London on an overnight flight. Brad slept, but Henry and I were too captivated by the personal televisions to bother with sleep. He watched cartoons and I saw three (yes THREE) movies, including Charlie Wilson's War, which I loved.
Now we find ourselves in the Holiday Inn Lobby. It's too early to check in and too early to call our friends on a Sunday. Thus, Henry's asleep on my lap, Brad's asleep on the chair next to me, and I'm marveling at the array of different nationalities wandering through the lobby. Thus, not a very exciting start, but we're alive and well and sleeping in public.
More soon when we've actually adventured...
cheers,
jennifer
